Minister Barbara Namugambe kicks off the 2025 Road Safety Week, emphasizing that vehicle safety is a collective responsibility that requires cooperation from all sectors.

The government's focus on reducing road crashes through improved vehicle maintenance has brought together various stakeholders for this year's theme: "Safe Vehicles for a Safer Uganda."

December 18 marked the launch of the Road Safety Week, held at Namanve Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.

The launch signals the start of a nationwide campaign aimed at enhancing safety on Uganda's roads through improved vehicle conditions.

As part of the activities, stakeholders received hands-on experience with the forthcoming Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) exercise, providing insight into how inspections will be conducted once the programme is fully implemented.

The ministry has prepared for mandatory vehicle inspections, starting with government vehicles to establish a standard for compliance and accountability before expanding the program to the wider public.

This annual event reinforces safety on highways through a series of engagements, awareness activities, and stakeholder outreaches across Uganda.
